After many years of successful freight movements to Uruguay, Tuscor Lloyds has reaffirmed its commitment to the South American country with the opening of a new receiving office in Montevideo.

The office is to be operated by a long standing and highly valued partner of Tuscor Lloyds in the region. With a huge network of offices spanning across the continent, Craft has an expanding local customer base and is looking to plug the gaps in its exhaustive regional service offering.

Nick Rodriquez of Tuscor Lloyds comments, ‘We have moved a great deal of cargo to Uruguay over the years. We built up successful services in full loads, ro/ro, conventional and project cargoes. But with Craft here looking after our interests, we can look forward to running frequent LCL groupage containers as well. We are excited to re-launch in this region and we’re confident that our improved service will be very attractive to the expanding enterprises in the area.’

The rise of Brazil as a powerful and dynamic economy is well documented, and its rapid expansion and subsequent regional influence cannot be underestimated. The recent heavy investment in Rio Grande in south Brazil, the discovery of offshore oilfields, and the localised development of manufacturing and industrial hubs has improved the outlook for the continent as whole.

Uruguay, like its large neighbour, has a wealth of raw materials but a strong legal system and open financial markets also provide a very healthy investment climate. The new economy of Uruguay is likely to be strong in industrial technology and research. The workforce enjoys high literacy rates and there is a large educated middle class. This coupled with a progressively open economic policy will likely provide a slightly different proposition to foreign companies looking to invest in the region.
