What is Carbon Offsetting and why it matters?

As the harmful effects of climate change intensify, many industries focus on decreasing their carbon footprint each year. While some industries can replace older practices with more sustainable approaches, others must implement strategies to compensate for their carbon-creating activities which is also known as “carbon offsetting”. This approach applies to freight transportation and is one of the most effective ways to compensate for the high carbon emissions.

How is Carbon Emission affecting the environment?

The increase in carbon emissions is widely reported to have a negative effect on the environment. It is known to increase air pollution and the likelihood of acid rain and cause wildfires. The effects of this adverse change can lead to illnesses, food shortages, and loss of natural resources.

Why is carbon offsetting important?

Carbon offsetting is a term used to describe reducing carbon dioxide-based emissions by implementing environmental solutions. Many companies and industries use carbon offsetting as a way of balancing out or reducing their emissions in the atmosphere. In the freight industry, this simply means balancing the carbon dioxide emission during shipping with a positive environmental activity that absorbs the level of carbon emitted; one such way is by planting trees.

Planting trees helps to:

Reduce risks associated with soil erosion

Absorb CO2 and other harmful pollutants from the atmosphere

Release oxygen which we breathe in

Filter harmful contaminants from our waterways

Promotes life for many forms of insects, fungi, animals, and even other plants.

Freight Club’s Own Offsetting Measures

Freight Club has taken the bold steps of offsetting 100% of CO2 emissions in every shipment. We have:

Partnered with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization that partners with reforestation organizations in North America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia and have planted over 40 million trees since 2014.

Planted trees to offset the carbon emissions of every shipment made at no extra cost to the customer. This initiative supports the replanting of trees across the United States.

Since the start of our partnership in 2021, Freight Club has planted over 25,000 trees and plans to continue throughout this year and the years to come.

Through our partnership with One Tree Planted, our customers can offset 100% of their carbon emissions, regardless of their size. It couldn’t be any simpler.
