The Solution

A variety of freight services including vessel monitoring, destination port release, customs clearance and the formation of delivery schedules. Various 40ft flat rack containers, 40ft high cube containers and 40ft/20ft general purpose containers were used depending on the cargo specifications and shipped to the ports of Southampton and Felixstowe.

Recently Tuscor Lloyds projects team were involved in a large scale renewable energy installation. 502 containers carrying approximately 88,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels were shipped over an 8 week window, from the manufacturer in Shanghai to numerous solar farm destinations in the UK.

The growth of the solar industry has accelerated in recent years and in 2014 figures showed that solar power almost doubled in the UK according to the department of energy and climate change. Despite Britain being famous for its lacklustre weather, high levels of sunlight are making Britain a somewhat unexpected hub for clean, green energy. Statistic show that UK solar energy can generate as much as 60% of that received at the Equator. With industry experts suggesting that solar electricity could be cost competitive with gas in 2020, it seems that many UK businesses are already embarking on their solar mission.

Tuscor Lloyds projects team began in Shanghai with a recommendation by our freight forwarding partners based in China. The task to ship and deliver over 500 containers in an 8 week window was no mean feat, with our project specialists managing the shipment 24/7. A variety of freight services were required for the complex shipment, including vessel monitoring, destination port release, customs clearance and the formation of delivery schedules. Various 40ft flat rack containers, 40ft high cube containers and 40ft/20ft general purpose containers were used depending on the cargo specifications and shipped to the ports of Southampton and Felixstowe.

Due to particular deadlines it was essential for the cargo to carry high priority requirements and for our team to action services with extremely short lead times. To meet the predetermined deadline the team encountered several problems that had to be quickly resolved. They included numerous vessel delays affecting the pre prepared delivery schedule and increasing pressure on the team to avoid storage charges. Pre scheduling of all containers before arrival was also required to secure haulage. With such a large scale operation it was also necessary to maintain a constant stream of communication with drivers, organising the flow of deliveries into the sites to avoid congestion.

Our dedicated projects team visited the site locations to oversee numerous deliveries. The delicate and technical products used in solar energy requires extensive experience in specialist handling. Our familiarity with bespoke cargo provided the necessary tools to safely deliver the large scale energy components.
