TuscorMoves: Teabag Making Machine – UK To South Africa
How We Did It
Tuscor Lloyds was recently approached to move a refurbished teabag machine from inside a refurbishment centre in Stafford to a new facility in Durban. The brief specified that the machine was too large for standard container transport and had to be collected loose from the refurbishment facility, brought to our packing depot and crated for marine transport to South Africa.
Prior to collection, the machine was inspected to provide the Tuscor Lloyds Operations Team with information about the machine dimensions, location, lifting points and route to the loading bay. The report ascertained that the machine was located inside a workshop room and had no forklift points. In addition to this, the machine was not crated and was of an obscure shape. Moreover, the machine was delicate and not waterproof.
On the day of collection, the machine was skated from the warehouse floor to the loading bay by a specialist team of factory movers. The machine was then craned onto a HIAB vehicle and secured in accordance with refurbishments specialists’ oversight so that the delicate components were not damaged. Weatherproofed sheeting was used to protect the machine whilst it was in transit to the packaging facility.
At the packing facility, the machine was secured to the purpose-built deck, with shock-absorbing material, to protect it whilst in transit. In addition to this, the machine was foil-wrapped to protect it against dust and precipitation, then wrapped with a further layer of weather-proof material, before being braced and secured inside the crate at specific stress points, so no delicate components were damaged.
The crated machine was then loaded to a flatrack and secured ready for marine transport to the UK port in time for the vessel.
Once the flatrack had arrived in Durban, the machine was discharged by crane and delivered to the client’s warehouse, exactly as planned.
“What was enjoyable about this particular project was the requirement for a multi-phase approach that included pre-site visits, factory removal specialists, cranage, crating, as well as Out of Gauge Project shipping.”
All of our suppliers involved performed their individual roles professionally and collectively with each other to provide a seamless transition of this machine from the UK factory floor to its new site in South Africa.
Well done to all parties involved”.
