2 x reels: 210 x 230 x 232cms, 20,000kgs each

Cargo origin: UK

Collection from: Worksop

Cargo Destination: Curacao

Port of loading: London Gateway

Port of Destination: Willemstad, Curacao

Equipment used: 8 x low loaders for collection, 8 x 20’FR for shipment

HOW WE DID IT

Tuscor Lloyds recently completed another major project comprising 8 oversized steel reels.  This break bulk cargo was transported from Worksop, UK to Willemstad, Curacao.  The reels varied in weight and height, with the largest measuring in at 234 x 265 x 267cms and weighing 25,000kgs.

The cargo was collected from Worksop and was delivered to the Port of Willemstad.  Due to the scale of the cargo and awkward shape, 8 low loaders and flatrack containers were used to facilitate the shipment.

As anticipated, the project ran smoothly from start to finish with the exception of one minor setback.  Some of the empty equipment was not in stock at London Gateway Port, so some had to be moved over from Southampton.  However, this had no impact on the overall success of the project.

Luke Wrench, of the Tuscor Lloyds Shipping Team, oversaw this project:

“Despite the current global situation pertaining to COVID-19, we still managed to complete this job without any major issues.  It feels great to be able to continue to serve our clients even in the most challenging of times”.

TuscorMoves: Steel Reel From the UK to Italy

QUICK FACTS

Cargo: 1 x steel reel

Cargo origin: Newcastle, UK

Cargo destination: Catania, Italy

Cargo dimensions: 252 x 234 x 262cms

Cargo weight: 25,000kgs

Transport method: low-loader

HOW WE DID IT

Tuscor Lloyds recently completed a cargo movement from Newcastle, UK to Catania, Italy.  The cargo comprised a heavy-oversized steel-reel, weighing in at 25,000kgs.  Due to density of reel, the cargo was transported on a specialist low-loader-trailer.

What made this project even more challenging than it normally would be is the current restrictions in place as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.  With Italy being in lockdown, the transport links have been reduced and the usual ferry to Sicily (where this would enter Italy) had been stopped – meaning the end user faced potential delays in receiving their cargo.

However, not long after the cargo arrived at the ferry crossing point the service was resumed and due to our strong links in the transport community, we were able to avoid the backlog of cargo. We were able to get the cargo on one of the first ferries, delivering it in good time.

Luke Wrench, of the Tuscor Lloyds Shipping Team, oversaw this project:

“When it comes to a challenge, as a company, Tuscor Lloyds is in its element.  Despite the issues that the current coronavirus pandemic has thrown up for the logistics industry, we were able to call upon our industry connections to get this job done safely, efficiently and in good time.”

QUICK FACTS

Cargo:  LL6060 Bucket

Port of loading: Port of Durban, South Africa

Port of Destination: Port of Antofagasta, Chile

Cargo dimensions: 482x421x381cm

HOW WE DID IT

Due to the urgent nature of the shipment the customer requested containerised transportation.

The cargo, a LL6060 bucket, was extremely heavy so an appropriate road vehicle and flatrack was sourced.

Routing and vessel checks were completed to ensure best arrival date but additional checks were required at each transhipment call to ensure that all ports on route had adequate crane capacity to lift cargo at the terminal.

“The cargo moved was one of the biggest buckets available on the market.  It was collected from the manufacturing plant and secured for marine transport. It was the usual awkward shape and weighed a hefty amount – 33,500kg.  Another project done and dusted!”

– Derek Griffiths, Project Operations team

TuscorMoves: Urgent Geo Intelligence Equipment – Gran Canaria to the UK

TuscorMoves: Urgent Geo Intelligence Equipment – Gran Canaria to the UK

TuscorMoves: Urgent Geo Intelligence Equipment

Tuscor Lloyds were called upon to carry out a large oversized project movement from the UK to Canary Islands.

There was a strict deadline for cargo to arrive at destination, we therefore had a very short time-frame in order to arrange.  Total shipment comprised of 19 packages of Geological-survey-equipmentthe largest item measured 4.5metres wide & high.

We had to arrange permits in advance and escorts vehicles to accompany the oversized load on the UK roads.  Upon collection there was an increase to the number of pieces including a late addition of hazardous cargo which we were able to accept & arrange to all fit/add the ADR whilst avoiding any delay.

The options for the cargo to load to the flat racks were also limited as the depots could not physically accept the cargo in due to the main pieces width, we identified a workable option to load within the Port Area to overcome this restriction

Delivery into the Port was achieved with the correct planning & coordination with the port police and our experienced partners/suppliers to overcome the issue of local roadworks/access restrictions due to the cargo width,

We arranged for the Flat Rack loadings to be overseen by a Maritime Surveyor with the safe loadings confirmed & all completed in a timely manner.

Once loaded the required Port Police Escorts were arranged & the loaded deliveries were booked with the port to get the Flat Racks delivered in to the export terminal in time for the vessel cut-off.

The items were shipped from the Port of Tilbury, UK to the Port of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.

Nathan Lang, of the Tuscor Lloyds Project Operations Team said:

“This project presented us with a number of challenges.  The first being the increase in items to transport, from 10 to 19.  That’s not to mention the fact that hazardous cargo was added to the consignment as our trucks arrived to collect! In addition to this, the port access / load depot restrictions meant that there were limited options available.  However, we managed to find workable solutions and with the help of our trusted suppliers, we got the job done.”

Deadline:                                            Chinese New Year close down

HOW WE DID IT

Tuscor Lloyds was recently approached to transport a new factory milk filler station to Tianjin Airport, in China. The cargo was manufactured at multiple sites across Europe and needed to be amalgamated to arrive into China before Chinese New Year 2020. The closest port to Tianjin is Xingang Port, so appropriate shipping lines were selected with services that fit the tight delivery schedule.

The brief specified that some parts of the machine were ‘out of gauge’ (the highest being over 4m) so a combination of standard containers, open tops and flatracks were required. The larger pieces were manufactured in the UK and were collected and taken to our specialist loading facility where they were secured for marine transport and sheeted, to safeguard them from adverse weather.

Simultaneously, all in gauge cargo was collected from manufacturing sites in UK, Spain and Germany and loaded into FCL containers, before it was taken to appropriate European ports.

It was critical for all cargo to arrive into China prior to the national Chinese New Year celebrations. All cargo set sail from different European ports on route to Xingang, China.

Once the shipment arrived into Xingang, China all cargo was delivered from Xingang port to Tianjin Airport and unloaded prior to the Chinese close-down for their New Year celebrations.

“What was enjoyable about this particular project was the requirement to coordinate shipments from across Europe to arrive into China at the same time and deliver to the customer before the national close down for the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Equipment availability, specialist haulage and vessel planning were all critical to the success of this project.

All our suppliers performed their respective roles to an incredibly high standard in order to transport all cargo from manufacturing centres across Europe to the final destination in China.  Well done to all parties involved”.

– Derek Griffiths, Tuscor Lloyds Project Operations team
